  Education for Sustainable Development Policy
An update on what CMEC is doing about ESD!
In 2008, the Council of Ministers of Education Canada (CMEC) included ESD as one of the key activity areas in Learn Canada 2020, the framework to enhance Canada's education systems. The goal for ESD is to reorient education policy and practice for advancing all learners to become informed and engaged citizens in moving towards a sustainable society. To support this goal, CMEC has developed a pan-Canadian ESD framework for collaboration and action. Download the Developing a Pan-Canadian ESD Framework for Collaboration and Action background paper.

 Faculty of Education ESD Survey
A partnership between CMEC, IISD and LSF!
The Council of Ministers of Education Canada (CMEC), in partnership with the International Institute for Sustainable Development (IISD) and LSF, is undertaking research to develop a better understanding of how Canadian Faculties of Education are incorporating ESD into their pre-service programs, research and other activities. The results will be compiled into the report, Preparing Teachers for Education for Sustainable Development and will be available on The Council of Ministers of Education Canada (CMEC) website.

Project FLOW For the Love Of Water
Project FLOW engages students to be stewards of our water resources. This year we've funded 44 Project FLOW action projects. Here are a few of them:
At École Mission Central Elementary in Mission, BC students and Elders are working together to harness the power and provisions of nature through the use of rain catchments, the reuse of brown-water, the planting of indigenous gardens, and vermicomposting. At Tantramar Wetlands Centre in Sackville, NB secondary students are training elementary students to assess water quality at a variety of locations throughout the school district and compile the results to construct a model for sources of water pollution/contamination in their community. For more project ideas, visit www.r4r.ca/project-flow. |
